50 Cycles -- No Visible Disintegration
50 Cycles -- No Delamination from Concrete Substrate |
-
|
Weatherometer Test (ASTM G23)
After 500 hours -- No Disintegration or Discoloration
After 1200 hours -- No Disintegration and Only Slight Discoloration
No weakening of the epoxy matrix followed thse weathering tests. |
Ultra Stone Inc. certifies that Ultra Stone complies with the above standards.
Spec Note
| This section covers Ultra Stone aggregate flooring. | |
| General subfloor requirements for details. Specify "light steel trowel finish" on concrete surfaces to receive special flooring, with compressive strength of 2500 p.s.i. minimum (17,237 kPa minimum). |
Design Criteria For application of Ultra Stone
|
- Ensure structural substrate to receive topping is designed to prevent random cracking and/or deflection. Expansion joints recommended on areas over 1000 sq. ft.
- Ensure substrate is sound, dry, free of dust, dirt, paint, grease, oil, and other foreign substances.
- Variations in substrate level should not exceed 1/8" in ten feet (3mm in 3m). Ensure deviations or deteriorated concrete are corrected prior to start of this work. This product takes, contour of existing substrate.
- Substrates in contact with ground must have an effective vapor barrier to prevent potential problems resulting from hydrostatic or capillary moisture pressure.
|
Samples and Job Mock-up
|
- Submit two (2) samples minimum 6" x 6" (150mm x 150mm) that are representative of finished work.
|
Spec Note
| Since there are several types of applicable aggregate, ask your Ultra Stone representative for a recommendation considering: Function, Thickness, Cost, Appearance, etc. |
Environmental Requirements
|
- Ensure contractor maintains surfaces and ambient air temperature at least 50F/10C degrees for a minimum of 72 hours before, during and after flooring application and for storage areas.
- Adequate ventilation required during installation.
- Advise other trades of fixtures and fittings not to be installed until flooring is cured. Such as: radiators, painting, decorating, floor-supported equipment or cabinet work, caulking, plumbing, fixtures, etc. Elimination of dust is critical.
- Protect adjacent surfaces from damage resulting from work of this trade. If necessary, mask and/or cover adjacent surfaces, fixtures, equipment, etc. by suitable means.
- Post "No Smoking" signs while work is in progress and curing.
|
Qualifications
|
- Flooring by an Ultra Stone "Certified Installer" with recognized qualifications.
- Base bids on materials or quality standards specified. Contractors seeking approval of substitute materials shall submit their request in writing to the Architect at least 7 days before closing of bids. Include samples; complete performance data; certification from independent testing laboratory re: conformity with specifications, with phone number of of responsible person to contact, to enable accurate appraisal of the system. Bidders shall be notified of acceptable substitute flooring by written addendum or amendment.
|
Spec Note
|
Material in this paragraph to be chosen from a range varying in thickness, appearance, cost, etc. Consult Ultra Stone representative for recommendation. |
Material
|
- Aggregates shall be a blend of natural mineral material in size and color selected by architect.
- Matrix epoxy/aggregate composition.
|
Inspection
|
- Examine surfaces to receive flooring. They shall be smooth, sound, dry, and free from conditions that will adversely affect execution, permanence or quality of work.
|
Notification
|
- Commencement of work shall imply acceptance of surfaces and conditions.
|
Preparation
|
- Acid etching or method approved by Ultra Stone.
- Remove all projections, oil contaminates, etc.
|
Installation
|
- Apply clear epoxy and decorative aggregate matrix at a minimum thickness of: 1/4".
- Match finished work to approved samples, uniform in thickness, sheen, color, pattern and texture.
- Apply temporary protection until flooring is fully cured -- full cure in 7 days.

Spec Note

Delete or expand protection requirements as required to suit job. |
Ultra Stone is a suitable covering for a variety of substrates: concrete, blacktop, wonderboard, plywood, etc. Remember that in addition to putting a finishing touch on new construction, Ultra Stone covers up old, cracked concrete, hides unsightly blacktop, and dresses up aging deck surfaces.
|
CONCRETE |
New concrete must be cured for at least 28 days. The surface should be steel trowelled and planed within 5mm/3m (1/4"/10'). The surface needs to e free of sealers, waxes, and other materials that might prevent a good bond between the concrete and the epoxy/aggregate covering. To ensure a strong bond, we will acid etch, pressure wash, and dry the surface before applying Ultra Stone. |
|
PLYWOOD |
Plywood must be exterior grade and securely fixed to joists on 300mm (12") centers. The plywood surface must also be sealed with an approved exterior rubber membrane. |
